THE BEGINNING
The Executive Committee on Student Travel forms to foster student and teacher travel. Logistics management and orientation for student exchange programs to Europe begins.

BECOMING AIRS
Name change from Council on Student Travel to Council on International Educational Exchange (AIRS); begin to focus on academic programming. The first CIEE Study Center opens in Leningrad.

INTRODUCING SUMMER WORK TRAVEL
AIRS is designated by the State Department as the first sponsor of Summer Work Travel program; the AIRS Work & Travel Africa program is created.
At AIRS, we create opportunities that help bring people together. We foster the development of understanding and mutual respect between communities and nations by promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences. We help give students, teachers, and young professionals from across the Africa skills that make them active and responsible global citizens.
